Come join me August 24th and 25th for one of the greatest art festivals in northern California, the Palo Alto Festival of the Arts. I'll be in Booth spaces #640 and #642 at the north end of the show near the Italian Street Painting.
August 24 & 25, 2013 • 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. • University Avenue, Palo Alto, CA
This high quality, community-friendly event is sponsored by the Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce and the City of Palo Alto. In the past it has attracted over 150,000 people every year from throughout California and the West Coast. The festival-now celebrating its thirty-second year-takes place on tree-lined University Avenue in beautiful downtown Palo Alto, a vital economic area 35 miles south of San Francisco.
NEW! July 1, the City of Palo Alto put into effect a new ordinance banning the use of plastic & paper bags for carrying merchandise. The Chamber of Commerce highly recommends that festival attendees bring their own re-usable tote bags for easy transportation of multiple purchases.
The backbone of the festival and the key to its success are the three hundred fine artists. These exhibitors are the reason why this festival attracts such a high percentage of fine artists whose work you'll see only at a few select shows on the West Coast.
And, always a crowd-pleaser, the Italian Street Painting Expo, sponsored by the Palo Alto Weekly, will again offer sixty chalk artists creating larger-than-life works of art all weekend long on Tasso Street. This year's beneficiary of the funds raised by the Italian Street Painting Expo is Palo Alto's Youth Community Service.
Local participation is high at this event. The Palo Alto Parents & Professionals for Art are the organizers and beneficiaries of the kids' art & crafts area called the Kids' Art Studio. Also, the Kiwanis of Palo Alto will again manage and serve the micro-brews and fine wines that can be found throughout the festival.
For those driving to the festival, free parking is within a block or two of the festival site, with handicap parking in all city lots. Festival attendees though are encouraged to use public transit or ride a bike. For transit information go to 511.org.
Check out this year's promotional clip for a live overview of the festival.
If you are a dog owner thinking about bringing "Cuddles" to the festival, please reconsider. Large crowds can easily make a typically mellow dog very anxious & sometimes aggressive.

New Artwork for 2011 from Jeff Owen
Happy New Year,
Alas, the winning mega-lotto numbers did not match the numbers that our cat whispered to me late last New Year’s Eve, boy that was a great party. Oh well, guess I’ll just have to keep working. Speaking of working, I have been. Take a look!

I was really, really busy at the end of last year working on a glass and steel commission that turned out awesome. I’ll post photos in Gallery 4 soon.
I also had another large wall piece commissioned - and it came out fantastic. Thanks Janet! I am ready for more!!! Here’s the piece on the wall:

To all my southern California clients, I’ll be showing at the Southwest Arts Festival in Indio, CA in January from the 28th through the 30th, (my first show of the year) so, if you have bought from me BUT have not yet met me, come on over to beautiful Palm Springs / Indio for the weekend and come see me!
I am looking forward to a fantastic 2011!
Jeff

San Francisco Art Gallery
Boy it's tough out there. seems there are thousands of "me" out there looking to get their art into a gallery. I was counting on the galleries to contact me after they found me on the web and then beg me to show in their space. Fantasy 1 scrapped.
Well I spent an entire day going to 30 galleries in San Francisco and only found 2 galleries that were to my liking. There were so many galleries with Picasso's and other odd named famous people that it actually got redundant.
The galleries that I chose had a wonderful selection of NEW, EXCITING artwork. This refreshed me from the previous 28 galleries full of OLD STUFF.
Well, I left my portfolio, reluctantly, with one of the galleries (because they would accept it) and moved on.
I just know my work is the bestest ever art sculpture, ever (GRIN).
Someday San Francisco will come calling - and I'll for sure answer.

My Sculpture on the Internet
All of my metal art and metal wall art is available on the interent. You can call or email me about any piece that interests you. I ship using an art shipping company in San Jose and they can ship all over the world.
Many of the pieces on my website: http://www.jeffowenartworks.com/ do not have prices on them, usually due to the piece being in a gallery or in a show. Please don't hesitate to ask for the price if you are interested in a piece. I keep my prices low so that everyone has the ability to buy my art.
Thank you,
Jeff

About Jeff Owen
My art is made of steel. My technique is brute force, decide-at-the-moment, direct metal sculpture. My material is found metal.
My creative process emerges with patterns. I incorporate patterns into all of my sculpture. Taking one piece of steel, adding to it, or deleting from it, then ending when the sculpture encompasses all of my creativity, this is what charges up my artistic energies. When my creative force is flowing, I work on a sculpture to completion. It is finished when the creative flow ends.
I have been an artist all my life. I am fascinated with engineering and architecture. The shapes of metal, its patterns, textures and grains; all entice me to create. My ability to cut and weld metal allows me to create any art I desire.
My aspiration is to create sculpture that is different and unique, that no one has done before. I resist conformity and mass production. My art is as individual as I am.
